Foreign Trade Blue T-Shirt Review: Three Body Types, Six Jin Size Bands and No Flat Measurements
We ordered the $5.97 cotton crewneck and put S, L and 2XL on three body types, then checked the jin size bands against a tape. The tee holds up; the sizing chart is the weak part.

At $5.97, the Foreign Trade blue crewneck is the kind of listing that tempts you to skip the details and just pick a size. That is the one thing worth slowing down for. The page sells a 200 g pure-cotton tee with dropped shoulders and a geometric letter print, but it gives body-weight bands in jin instead of flat garment measurements, so our review put the tape measure where the thumbnail used to be. We ordered the blue colourway (3460, short sleeve, 100% cotton) through our usual agent route, opened the parcel on camera, and then did what a listing cannot do for you: fitted it on three different frames and watched what two cold washes did to the numbers.
What arrived, and what the 200 g number actually refers to
The listing's "200 g" is a fabric weight figure in the sense of grams per square metre, not the weight of the parcel or the shirt. Our size L sample came off the bench scale at 214 g, which is consistent with a 200 g jersey knit cut to a loose pattern — the fabric is standard thickness, not a heavyweight. The hand-feel is a dry, plain cotton jersey with a little body to it; the drop-shoulder seam sits noticeably off the shoulder point, which is why the fit reads relaxed rather than boxy.
The blue colourway we received is a mid-tone, not a bright cobalt, and the chest print is a geometric letter graphic applied with a standard print process. Under the light box, registration was close but not perfect at the edges of the smallest letter strokes; at arm's length it is invisible, at reading distance it is there. Stitch density at the hem and sleeve hems was even and the crew ribbing recovered after being stretched rather than staying baggy.
The size chart is six body-weight bands, not a measurement table
The listing quotes a 3 cm tolerance and gives every size as a suggested body weight in jin (1 jin ≈ 0.5 kg). We converted them so you can compare them with your own measurements. These are the seller's numbers, not ours.
| Size | Listing band (jin) | Converted (kg) | Our note on the fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| S | 90–115 | ~45–58 | Tightest drop-shoulder drape; print sits high on the chest |
| M | 110–130 | ~55–65 | Overlaps S heavily; the band is wide |
| L | 125–150 | ~62.5–75 | Our test size; loose through the body, standard sleeve |
| XL | 140–170 | ~70–85 | Broad overlap with L and 2XL |
| 2XL | 170–195 | ~85–97.5 | Shoulder seam drops further; print appears lower |
| 3XL | 190–215 | ~95–107.5 | Largest band in the run |
Body-weight bands are not a measurement system. Two people at 75 kg with different heights and chests will land in different sizes, and the 3 cm tolerance means the garment you receive can differ from the listing's ideal by more than an inch in any direction. Before ordering, ask the seller for flat chest width and body length in centimetres for the size you want, and hold those numbers against a tee you already own. That single step is worth more than any weight band in the chart.
Fit across three body types
We fitted the same three sizes on three team members with different frames — a narrow-shouldered 170 cm wearer, a broader 178 cm wearer and a heavier 182 cm wearer — and made each of them sit, reach overhead and raise both arms.
- Through the body: the loose cut has real room. Nobody needed to size up for comfort at their listed band; the risk runs the other way, with narrower frames finding the S and M more voluminous than expected.
- Drop shoulder: the off-shoulder seam is the defining feature and the reason the tee photographs the way it does. It also means the chest print lands lower and further out on smaller sizes than on larger ones, because the whole panel shifts with the seam.
- Length: the hem sits mid-hip on our 178 cm wearer. Taller wearers in the upper half of a weight band should assume a shorter body than the listing implies and verify length before ordering.
- Collar: the crew neck is snug without pressure and did not gape when pulled. After the wash cycles, the ribbing returned to shape.
Two cold washes, and what moved
We re-measured chest and length five days after opening, then again after two cold washes and air drying. Movement was small but not zero, and it was in length rather than width — the pattern most cotton knits follow. This matches the only sourced buyer discussion we found on the subject, which is category-level commentary about pure cotton and heat, not feedback about this specific tee. It also matches published textile guidance that untreated or unknown-finish cotton knits can lose low single-digit percentages in length on early washes, with tumble drying adding more than line drying.
That is not a defect report, it is a care instruction. Cold wash, air dry, and if you must use a dryer, use the lowest setting and pull the shirt out while it is still slightly damp. Anyone who routinely runs new cotton through a hot cycle should treat the upper edge of their weight band as the target, not the middle.
Five cotton colourways and one blank cell
The listing names six options. White, black, coffee, blue and dark grey are each labelled 3460 short sleeve and 100% cotton. The sixth, listed as pure white short sleeve, carries no composition in the catalog data we worked from. Five cells confirm cotton; the sixth says nothing. If composition matters to you — and with a print and a fitted collar it reasonably might — ask before you order that option rather than assuming it follows the others.
What you get for $5.97, and what you do not
What you get is a genuinely wearable summer tee: a 200 g cotton jersey, a loose drop-shoulder cut, a chest print that survives a light wash routine, and a size run that reaches 3XL. What you do not get is any independent feedback on this exact item, any flat measurement table, or a stated composition for one of the six colourways. The listing also carries a struck-through $6.79 against the $5.97 price, and any agent fees or shipping sit on top of that — we would not build a purchase around a $5.97 tag without doing that landed-cost arithmetic first.
Our advice is unchanged from the bench: the shirt is the easy part, the sizing is the work. Ask for chest and length in centimetres, confirm the composition of the colourway you want, and wash it cold.
What works
- Loose drop-shoulder cut holds its shape on three different frames
- 200 g cotton jersey at standard summer weight, no coating or stiffness
- Size run reaches 3XL, with five colourways labelled 100% cotton
Watch-outs
- No flat garment measurements; sizing rests on body-weight bands and a 3 cm tolerance
- The pure-white short-sleeve option lists no composition in the catalog data
- No independent buyer feedback exists on this exact tee
