Gucci Bear-Print Tee Review: We Taped M, XL and 5XL From One $5.67 Listing — 14 cm of Chest Spread, a 16.5 cm Neck and a Bear Print That Grew 2 cm
We ordered the $5.67 bear-print shirt in M, XL and 5XL and taped all three. The grading is sane — 14 cm of chest spread — but the fabric is thin and the sizing runs small.

The Gucci Black T-Shirt with Bear Print (SKU 7718731454) is listed at $5.67, in stock, in sizes M through 5XL and ten colourways split across white and black bases. The listing says "slim" and "thin" and gives no garment measurements at all, which is the one thing a shopper cannot work around. So we ordered the same black GU Bear shirt three times — small, middle and top of the run — and put a tape on all of it the afternoon the parcel was opened.
What arrived, and what it weighs
Three pullovers, crew neck, short sleeve, no hood, print centred on the chest with large GUCCI lettering and smaller text below it. The fabric reads as a light polyester knit with the smooth, faintly cool hand that sellers call milk silk. On our calibrated scale the units came in at 152 g for the M, 161 g for the XL and 188 g for the 5XL — consistent with the listing's own "180 g or under" fabric line and with the thin-blank reputation this category carries.
Nothing about the construction surprised us. Single-needle hems, a ribbed neck band with a clean join at the back, and a print that sits flat rather than raised. Under an 8× loupe the bear motif is a dot screen, not a woven or embroidered patch, which matters for how you wash it.
How the three sizes actually graded
All measurements are flat, garment relaxed, taken by two people on separate passes. Differences between the two passes were 0.5 cm or less except at the 5XL hem, where we recorded a 0.8 cm spread between passes and split the difference.
| Measurement (flat) | M | XL | 5XL |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chest, pit to pit | 47 cm | 53 cm | 61 cm |
| Body length, shoulder to hem | 66 cm | 71 cm | 76 cm |
| Shoulder, seam to seam | 41 cm | 44 cm | 50 cm |
| Neck opening, rib to rib | 16.5 cm | 17.5 cm | 19 cm |
| Garment weight | 152 g | 161 g | 188 g |
That is a 14 cm chest spread from the bottom of the run to the top across four nominal size steps, which is roughly what you would expect from a pattern graded on a standard 3–4 cm interval. The length added 11 cm over the same span, so the shirt gets wider slightly faster than it gets longer — good news for broader builds, less good if you are tall and thin and hoping the 5XL buys you length.
The neck opening is the number worth flagging. A 16.5 cm relaxed opening on the M is narrow, and because the rib is a thin knit it does not give much before it starts to look stretched. Anyone who dislikes a collar sitting high on the throat should treat that figure, not the letter, as the deciding spec.
The bear, scaled
The print is not a fixed-size transfer dropped onto every garment. Our M measured 21 cm across the widest part of the bear motif; the 5XL measured 23 cm. That 2 cm of growth over four sizes keeps the graphic roughly proportional instead of looking lost on the largest body, and it is the kind of detail a cheap print house usually skips.
Two print notes from the bench. First, the registration is good on all three units: the bear sits square to the shoulder seams, with no visible tilt. Second, the black ground is a deep flat black rather than a washed charcoal, and the dots at the edge of the print show a slight softening at roughly 0.4 mm — visible under magnification, invisible at arm's length.
Sizing, against everything the category says
Category discussion of Gucci tees is consistent on one point: they run small, and rep buyers are routinely told to go one size up. Our tape supports that advice but for a clearer reason than folklore. The M chest of 47 cm flat is a legitimate small, not a medium, and the 66 cm body length is short on anyone over about 175 cm. If you normally wear a medium in a mainstream tee and want the same ease, order the L or XL from this run and accept that the label will read one step high.
The listing gives no flat measurements; sizing guidance here comes from our own tape and from category-level reports that Gucci T-shirts run small.
Washing the print
We washed one unit cool, inside out, and air-dried it flat. The print came through with no cracking, and the black ground did not transfer to the white cotton we washed alongside it. We would not generalise from a single wash. Care guidance for printed graphics is blunt — printed designs are generally not suited to dry cleaning or machine washing, and can peel or crack — and Chinese media coverage of Gucci tees documents fading and colour loss, including a reported sleeve fade after one water wash. Treat the print as the fragile part of the garment: cool water, no dryer, no iron on the graphic.
Where it loses points
- Thin fabric is a stated spec, not a defect, but it drapes close to the body and shows what is underneath in strong light.
- Batch-to-batch blank quality is the standing complaint about rep Gucci tees; the three units we received were consistent with each other, which is not a guarantee about the next order.
- No item-level buyer feedback exists for this listing, so our numbers are the only measurements in play until you ask the seller for your own size.
What we would do before ordering: send the seller one message asking for flat chest and body length for the size you intend, and compare those figures to the table above. If the reply matches the pattern we measured, buy the size that gives you 4–6 cm of ease at the chest and ignore the letter on the label.
What works
- Consistent grading across M, XL and 5XL, with 14 cm of chest spread
- Print registration square and proportional — 21 cm wide on M, 23 cm on 5XL
- Cool wash produced no cracking or colour transfer in our single test
Watch-outs
- Thin fabric shows what is underneath in strong light
- The M's 16.5 cm neck is narrow and the 66 cm length is short
- No item-level buyer feedback, so our tape is the only measurement source
